Have you ever noticed how beautiful light looks against the darkness? There is something about Christmas lights on a tree or the flickering of a candle in a dimmed room. John 1 tells us that Jesus came into the world as a light and that:
"The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness has not overcome it."
Jesus is a light to this world that cannot be overcome by darkness and evil. When we see Christmas lights or a candle in a dark room, something inside of us responds to the truth that John lays out in the opening of His Gospel.
Christ has been made flesh. He is the light of this world.
